Your Potential Out-of-Pocket Costs

If you do not understand your benefit plan and what are your financial obligations are it can cost you a lot of money!

Pre-certification
If you are going to the hospital, most plans require pre-certification. That is, you have to contact your plan to see what requires pre-certification before the service is performed. If you do not, the service may not be covered or covered at a greatly reduced amount.

Blood, Stress and Other Tests
Many hospitals offer to perform certain tests. However, tests done in hospitals can be very expensive for you. Know what your costs are up front.

It is sure that the hospital’s charge for of these tests will be two, three and up to ten times more than what a non-hospital facility would charge.

Almost without exception, any procedure that can be performed at an outside lab (LabCorp and others) will cost you substantially less than if done in a hospital. You can locate network lab, testing, and therapy facilities here.

Out of Network Coverage
Most benefit plans provide some coverage for services provided by an out of network provider. However, that coverage may be greatly reduced either by a higher deductible or a larger coinsurance. This can result in a substantial difference in your costs.
